Abstract
An increase in population and economic activity from year to year has led to an increase in solid waste especially during the Covid-19 outbreak. Along with the problem of increasing solid waste, high recycling practices are an alternative to solve this problem. This study aims to identify the knowledge, awareness and attitude factors that influence recycling practices in the new norm in Arau, Perlis. 250 consumers in Arau were selected as respondents through a simple random sampling method. Data was collected using the Google Form platform. The results showed that 78.8% of the respondents had a high level of knowledge, and 21.2% of the respondents had a moderate level of knowledge. Meanwhile, the level of awareness showed that 100% of the respondents had a high level of awareness. Meanwhile, 75.6% of the respondents have a high level of attitude, 24.0% of the respondents have a moderate level of attitude, and 0.4% of the respondents have a low level of attitude. Moreover, results for the Pearson correlation coefficient showed that knowledge (r= 0.529, p= .000), awareness (r= 0.547, p= .000) and attitude (r= 0.733, p= .000) were positively and significantly associated with recycling practices. Furthermore, the results of multiple linear regressions showed that the adjusted R is was 0.593, indicating that all three determinants can predict 59.3% of the recycling practices. From the results of this study, it is found that the most influential factor is attitude. The results of this study can contribute to the implications of various parties and can have a better impact on the well-being of the environment, especially when the country is experiencing the Covid-19 crisis in increasing knowledge, awareness, and consumer attitudes through education and campaigns. In addition, it can also help promote and encourage recycling practices in the community effectively.
